Project Woes....

Today is the 15'Th of January. Pretty soon It will be the end of March and time for me to submit my final year graduation project and receive my degree. The only problem......I still haven't started my project yet.

With the clock ticking on, I am getting more and more panicky. Its all the result of my procrastination. I should have started looking for a lab to do my project much earlier than I actually did. I had three options :-

  • In my college lab
  • In a private institute
  • In another educational institution

Naturally I took the path of least resistance first. I thought about doing it in one of the labs of my college with any one of my semi-competent staffs as a project guide. This was not a very bad idea except for the fact that I would have to compete with 170 other students for even the most basic equipment like a measuring balance and wait for weeks for chemicals and supplies to arrive. With that option exhausted I moved on to the next one.

The private institutes are numerous in Chennai and more than eager to allow students to use their premises for doing an project. The only impediment- they charge exorbitant fees for projects that you would learn nothing out of. And also there will be at least ten other students with the same project and readings that I would have. Thus...REJECTED

Final option...This was the only one which worked. The HOD of a botany department in a reputed university agreed to let me do the project in his. Satisfied that everything was settled, I went to my home and never bothered to check again till last week, when they told me that I can use the lab but there will be no one to guide me because all the research scholars who guide students are in the final thesis writing stage and too busy. With my limited intelligence and endless hours of bunking labs, I don't even to use a pipette properly. Not knowing what to do next, I am reduced to praying that someone out of the blue will appear magically to guide me and get my project over with. Where is the silver lining in this cloud??

great idea...but the only problem is that we are the seniormost batch of biotech in our dept....and since our academic level is so mediocre, I hope any of my juniors don't get this idea...

silver lining is the fact that there's a lot of time left..

@krithika:

That is not much of a silver lining....time is not very useful when you have nowhere to do the project...

hello,
first time here.Thanks for stopping by my blog. Wouldn't the internet help you? There should even be interactive lab tutorials that would show you step by step on the right way to do things. Good luck!
